Raw Grace
Grace spends much of her life searching for belonging in family, men, beauty, comparisons with others, and a career. From her beginnings in upper middle class white suburbia to new perspectives gained while traveling the world, Grace realizes she fits in nowhere. The flawed delivery of Biblical messages causes her to question the church. However, unlike church patriarchy, if Grace does not know or understand the answers, she will not behave as if she does.
Her journey touches on perfectionism, an eating disorder, addiction in various forms, forbidden love, and confronting the deficiencies in her own understanding of the man she married. These experiences enable Grace to refine her filter for truth, even when it’s encumbered by lies, thereby leading her to uncover her identity and the true measure of her self-worth.
As she matures, a constant, gritty three-way dialogue emerges between her heart, her domineering inner critic, and her God, providing readers a unique window into who Grace wants to be despite those who expect and believe her to be otherwise. Throughout her triumphs and blunders, she is cradled in the raw grace of God and finds her value cannot be defined using the world’s standards.
